In response to the Omicron variant the Avon Maitland District School Board has expanded their mask requirements to include kindergarten students.
In a letter sent out to parents the school board says the risks outweigh the benefits of non-mask use, and the measure will help further keep schools open and staff and students safe.
The new requirements come into effect on Monday January 24th, and families are encouraged to work with students to ensure they are able to put on and remove their own masks.
A well-fitting mask should:
Fit securely to the head with ear loops or ties
Be comfortable and not frequently adjusted
Be made of at least two layers of tightly woven material and included a third filter type layer in the middle
And be large enough to cove the nose, mouth and chin without gaps.
