The Ontario Government is investing $90 million over three years through a new Addictions Recovery Fund to immediately expand addiction services.
The funding will also increase the number of treatment beds across Ontario and access to specialized mental health and addictions treatments.
The province is also improving public safety and supports for people in crisis by investing just over 438,000 dollars to the Police Mobile Crisis response Teams in Middlsex, Lambton and Essex.
These investments will support 396 new addictions treatment beds, which will provide an additional 7000 clients per year.
This funding, which includes a combined $854,000 for Walpole Island, and Kettle and Stony Point First Nations, will increase access to specialized mental health and addictions treatment services in communities who need it most.
Studies show that opioid-related deaths have surged by 79 per cent during the pandemic, while many people at risk of an overdose face significant barriers when trying to access treatment
