Angela Smith, the Community Improvement Coordinator for Central Huron, has been named one of the top ten economic developers in Ontario by the Economic Developers Council of Ontario!
It’s an honour Smith wasn’t expecting.
Smith has been bestowed this honour for her projects Artist Alley, Huron Student Honey, and the Shoppability Project. Smith has a new project on the go as well.
The Shoppability project has only done phase 1; there is more to come. However, this project is to help design the downtown to be more accessible to everyone.
The Huron Student Honey Project is one of Smith’s favorite projects. It has been recognized by the Lieutenant Governor as the top project in Ontario in 2022 and won the Rural Excellence Award. The project is to introduce students to beekeeping and show them how to harvest their own honey. As a result, they made enough honey to have the business community sell it for them and funds went back to their schools.
Artist Alley is another great project of Smith’s. The Municipality provided a sheet of plywood to anyone who wanted to participate. In total, 5 nursing homes, 6 schools, a daycare and countless families participated in painting murals on the sheets of plywood. As a result, 170 murals are on display in Clinton behind Godfathers Pizza. Artists ages ranged from 9 months old to 97 years old.
