Fraud…recognize it, report it, stop it!
That’s the message from police after a business in Perth East was recently defrauded out of $150 thousand dollars US.
A business located on Line 34 in Perth East was working with a vendor in Burlington to purchase a machine, and a wire transfer was sent to an email provided to the business by the vendor.
It’s alleged that the vendor’s email was hacked and they never actually received the money.
Police are continuing to investigate.
Tips to keep you safe can be found below:
Never give out personal information to people you don’t know, always verify contact information, do your own research, and always make sure people identifying a bank representative are actually who they say they are.
