The Ontario government is putting on five career fairs across the province this fall to attract young people into the skilled trades amid a massive shortage of workers in the professions.
Labour Minister Monte McNaughton says the province is hosting students from Grades 7 to 12 in Mississauga, London, Ottawa, Sudbury and Thunder Bay to promote skilled trade jobs.
The Ford government says there are already 360-thousand unfilled jobs in the province and by 2025, one in five jobs open are expected to be in the skilled trades.
McNaughton says it is time to rethink going to university as the only path to success.
