A large influx of older model Chevy and GM trucks have been stolen in the area recently.
Constable Michelle McIntyre tells myFM that it’s mainly because they are easier to steal.
McIntyre stresses that all vehicles are still at risk. You can help prevent your car from getting stolen by locking it, keeping valuables out of sight and parking in well-lit areas.
For older models of trucks, it is recommenced to park them in a garage when possible or block them in the driveway with another vehicle. A video home surveillance system could also be used.
McIntyre says to keep info on your vehicle as well.
She also recommends reporting any visible markings like dents, scuffs, or stickers.
She says to report any suspicious activity you may see as well. Such as unknown cars slowly driving by or people poking around your property. She says they may not take a vehicle then, but they could be scouting.
You can report any suspicious activity to Police or to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). If you are in an emergency, call 911.
