Three new bus stops have been added to two of the Huron Shores Area Transit routes.
Two new stops have been added on Route 2, one stop in Exeter at the McDonalds Parking lot and another in Centralia at 148 Melbourne Road by the kids park.
One new stop has been added to Route 1 at 9356 Army Camp Road in Ipperwash.
Susan Mills, Transit Coordinator, tells myFM the stops were added based on feedback from customers.
The stop added to route 1 breaks up a 9.3km stretch of highway. The route travels Sarnia to Grand Bend via. Lambton Shores route. Passengers were having to walk to MacPherson’s Restaurant in Port Franks and Points Plaza at Kettle & Stony Point First Nation to get on the bus. After talks with Kettle and Stoney Point First Nation, it made sense to put the bus stop in the large entranceway at 9356 Army Camp Road in Ipperwash. There is room for the bus to turnaround and enough room for passengers to safely get on and off the bus.
Mills says for the new stop in Centralia, it breaks up 2.2km in-between stops. Some passengers couldn’t do the walk and the distance was deterring people from using the transit. The new stop is at 148 Melbourne Road in-front of the kids playground.
The third stop that was installed is also on Route 2 from Grand Bend to London via the Exeter Route and it is located at the McDonalds Parking lot in Exeter. At the time of planning, the area was under construction so there was no room for a bus. After speaking with the manager of the McDonalds it made sense to have the stop there in the busy part of town.
Mills also tells myFM that these stops are made possible by working with owners and Municipalities.
