The 2023 Federal Budget was released on Tuesday.
Similar to the Ontario Budget, there is a lot of spending involved with the new budget.
MP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex, Lianne Rood, tells myFM big spending could lead us to a recession.
The items the PC party wanted to see included in the budget were not. Those topics are ending the war on work, lowering taxes, and removing gatekeepers.
Rood goes on to say that one of the taxes the Conservatives wanted to be abolished was the carbon tax.
Another tax is the Escalator Tax on alcohol. The Conservatives asked to put a stop to it, and while the Liberal Government didn’t scrap the escalator tax, they did cap it at 2% when it was supposed to rise to 6%.
Rood also says we need to pay more attention to the deficit.
Rood says the dream of owning a home has died. Many young Canadians and people coming to Canada in search of a better life are met with the hard reality that they may never own a house. Rood says they need to work with Provinces and Municipalities to abolish red tape, get building permits, free up land, and build houses. The PCs would like to sell Federal buildings that are not in use and turn them into housing.
According to the CMHC, Canada needs 3.5 Million houses to restore affordability. In the USA, with a population 10x the size of ours, they only need 5 million houses.
