As we finish up 2023’s earth week, it’s important to continue to think green all year round. However, sometimes it’s a bit difficult to know what’s actually recyclable.
Common materials that aren’t accepted by the Bluewater Recycling Association include styrofoam, juice boxes, tetra packs, or greasy pizza boxes, but Bluewater Recycling Association Special Projects Coordinator Wendy Yamamoto-Chapman shared that the thing they get asked about the most, might not be what you think.
Yamamoto-Chapman recommended that you use your knowledge of what is recyclable to help determine shopping choices, making recycling-conscious choices while grocery shopping to help make it easier to dispose of your containers when you’re finished with them, as opposed to trying to determine whether or not an item is recyclable after the fact.
She also shared that each of us as individuals can make a difference through our individual choices – from using reusable produce bags, bringing your mug to your local cafe, or being diligent about your recycling.
Yamamoto-Chapman recommended that individuals be proactive, and use their knowledge of what is recyclable to make things a bit easier down the road,
While each of us are only individuals, Yamamoto-Chapman says that it’s our collective responsibility to do our best,
