A Proposed Short Term Rental By-Law is nearing implementation in the Municipality of Bluewater, following a council meeting on Monday (June 5).
The by-law would see a licensing system with a fee of $750 attached.
Currently, the fine for a violation is proposed to be set at $900, accompanied by a demerit system.
Counsellor Whetstone noted that several other municipalities that have implemented similar systems have much higher fines, however, Aaron Stewardson, Manager of Development Services advised that fines don’t exceed $1000,
Counsellor Lamport said that a set fine system will likely yield higher enforcement,
A special council meeting regarding the implementation of the by-law will be held on June 15th at 3pm, and will be open to the public and recorded for reference.
The final draft of the by-law will be brought to the floor for approval at a council meeting on June 19th, with implementation of fines beginning in July.
