Destreaming grades nine and ten was top of mind at Avon Maitland District School Board’s presentation to South Huron Council on Monday (June 5).
Dr. Lisa Walsh and Trustee Robert Hunking said that nearly 4,900 students throughout the board will be affected by the change, which has been implemented at a provincial level.

The move supports equity for all students, and aims to increase opportunities for students to explore all career paths.
Currently, at South Huron District High School, 29% of graduates go to university, 61% to college, and 8.8% directly to the workplace.
Counsellor Vaughan expressed her support of destreaming,
The complete rollout of destreaming grades nine and ten is expected to be completed in time for the 2024-2025 school year, however, grade nine is completely de-streamed right now.
