The Canadian Mental Health Association in Exeter reports 1 in 5 Canadians have mental health concerns in any given year.
Unfortunately, they say, it can be difficult for people, especially men, to open up about those struggles.
Case Manager Jackie Mitchell says, that’s why June marks Men’s Mental Health Month.
She adds that it’s important to reduce the stigma surrounding the issues men face.
Mitchell says there are signs someone may be facing mental health struggles.
Keep an eye out for changes in someone’s mood, not enjoying things they used to, or someone suddenly becoming withdrawn.
Unfortunately, Mitchell says societal norms often make it difficult for men to talk about their struggles.
If you support or have more questions, feel free to reach out to the CMHA Thames Valley in Exeter or the Huron-Perth Crisis Helpline.
