Maureen MacFarlane, Community Development Manager with Canadian Blood Services says that donated blood has a variety of applications,
Donated blood is separated into three different products – red blood cells, platelets and plasma. All have different medical applications, but one of note is that plasma is used in the production of many medicines.
There are four main blood groups, O, A, B, and AB. The most common blood type is O+, which means that there’s always demand for donors, but the most important is referred to by MacFarlane as “liquid gold”
If you don’t know your blood type, there’s one easy way to find out,
Canada Blood Services is coming to gather donations in Exeter on July 19th.
