Huron County’s finest were out in full force during the Canada Day Road Safety Week campaign, and they weren’t messing around.
From June 24th to July 3rd, officers kept a keen eye on off-road vehicle operators, motorcyclists, and regular motorists, making sure they were using lifejackets, approved helmets, and seat belts.
Huron County OPP laid down the law, issuing a whopping 218 charges. They caught nine impaired drivers, proving that drinking and driving just don’t mix, and careless drivers received three citations for their stunt-like behavior, while five individuals forgot to buckle up.
Speed demons had a rough time, with 137 tickets issued for exceeding the speed limits. One unlucky off-road vehicle operator was caught without a helmet, earning themselves a penalty. Additionally, distracted drivers, liquor and cannabis-related offenses, insurance-related violations, and other traffic infractions did not escape the watchful eyes of the officers.
But it wasn’t all about fines and charges. The Huron County OPP also took the time to educate and issue warnings, totaling 77 reminders to drive safely. With a grand total of 299 traffic stops, they left no stone unturned in their pursuit of road safety.
The efforts of the Huron County OPP were part of a larger mission across the West Region, where over 3,000 traffic charges were laid during the Canada Road Safety Week Campaign. By working alongside partners throughout the province, the OPP aimed to make our roads a little safer for everyone.
