Road safety concerns from members of the public about the main corner of Zurich Hensall Road and Goshen Street were brought to Bluewater Council at a meeting on Monday (July 10th)
The discussion was sparked by a letter received from Janet Thiel, a concerned community member, urging the council to prioritize resolving the safety hazards at the intersection.
In her letter, Thiel highlighted the increasing number of collisions and near-misses at the main corner, emphasizing the lack of visibility caused by large vehicles obstructing the line of sight.
Dave Kester, Manager of Public Works, stated that county roads fall outside the municipal council’s purview,
Councillor Bailey expressed her support for addressing the safety concerns, emphasizing the urgency of the matter for the Zurich community.

Large vehicles on the sides of the road obstructing the views of drivers was a concern.
Councillor Groot raised the issue of the parking bylaw, which was also a concern for Thiel, clarifying that it falls under municipal jurisdiction.
It was emphasized that the legislation of the main streets and the management of traffic in that area are ultimately the responsibility of the county.
Recognizing this distinction, Mayor Paul Klopp said that he and and Deputy Mayor John Becker will be elevating the concern for discussion at the county level.
The issue will be presented to county council at a later date.
