If you felt like local hospital emergency rooms are closing more frequently as of late, you’d be right.
Over the past few years, local hospitals have been forced to reduce services due to insufficient staffing levels. Clinton Emergency Department has been running on reduced hours for over three years, putting immense strain on the healthcare system.
Andrew Williams, President, and CEO of the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) says that the issue is a national predicament,
Williams says that the healthcare system is not the only one with human resources problems,
He emphasized that the problem extends beyond hospital closures, and lack of availability,
Williams says that to address the current crisis, is going to require some out of the box thinking,
Clinton Emergency department has been operating on reduced hours for several years.
Regarding the frequency of closures, Williams noted a recent surge in reactionary alterations to service in response to increasing staffing shortages. He stressed that the healthcare system cannot continue to operate indefinitely under these conditions, and that fixing the problem will require collaboration.
