An update to this story is available here – this event has been cancelled due to public safety concerns.
Huron County OPP is on high alert as they brace for an unsanctioned truck rally event that may be making its way to the Town of Goderich and Central Huron tonight.
Similar events in other areas have witnessed a surge in dangerous and illegal activities, prompting authorities to take proactive measures to ensure public safety.
Previous occurrences of car rally participants engaging in dangerous driving, impaired driving, and stunt driving have raised significant concerns for law enforcement and the local community.
The “stunt driving” offense encompasses a wide range of dangerous behaviors, including racing, burnouts, drifting, and even driving with someone in the trunk.
Penalties include a maximum fine of $10,000, six demerit points on the driver’s license, a 14-day vehicle impoundment, a 30-day driver’s license suspension, and a court-ordered license suspension lasting one to three years for first-time offenders. Additionally, perpetrators could face up to six months in jail and be required to take a mandatory driver improvement course at their own expense.
Recognizing the potential negative impact that unauthorized events can have on the community, the Huron County OPP is deploying additional resources to ensure public safety. The authorities are urging participants to act responsibly, respect traffic laws, and refrain from engaging in dangerous and illegal activities that can jeopardize the well-being of citizens and the community at large.
In the event that road closures become necessary, the Huron County OPP will provide updates and information via their official Twitter account – @OPP_WR.
Members of the public play a crucial role in maintaining community safety. The Huron County OPP encourages anyone who observes suspicious or illegal activity related to the unsanctioned truck rally to contact the police immediately by calling 1-888-310-1122.
