A local restaurant is facing supply chain issues, and it’s not what you think – flooding in India has made rice a hot commodity.
India is one of the largest producers of rice in the world, and rice is a staple in many eastern cultures.
Co-owner of Indian Canadian restaurant Raja in Zurich Anirudh Tmksalai says that they are already struggling to get the supplies they need,
The crops will likely take a while to catch up, and once their small stockpile is depleted, he says they will have to look farther afield to hopefully find the supplies that they need – looking as far as Scarborough for a replacement.
India has stopped the export of all types of rice except for Basmati, and Tmksalai says they had to act fast,
Once their small stockpile is depleted, he says they will have to look farther afield to hopefully find the supplies that they need – looking as far as Scarborough for a replacement.
The increased cost burden as supply is outstripped by demand will likely create problems for them, but Tmksalai says they will not be passing that cost on,
You can support your local establishments by continuing to buy local, visit Raja in Zurich at the corner of Main and Goshen Street – but maybe consider skipping the rice.
