It’s been over a decade since they flipped from bagged garbage, to garbage bins, and the Bluewater Recycling Association says that the switch has come with some perks.
The switch reduced the burden on operators by removing their interactions with the waste, and reducing risk of injury with manual loading, that’s according to Special Projects Coordinator Wendy Yamamoto-Chapman,
Larger bin collection has also seen an uptick in the amount of recycling that people are doing,
She says that the use of recycling is absolutely vital, reducing burdens on landfills.
That being said, it’s important to make sure that your blue bin is ONLY used for recycling – Yamamoto-Chapman said that with the increase of recycling, they’ve also seen an increase in contamination,
Common examples of things that end up in the recycling that aren’t in fact recyclable include products like coffee cups, styrofoam, or greasy pizza boxes.
