In a tradition that has spanned seven years, Huron Hospice will be holding its annual Butterfly Release on Sunday, August 27th.
Participants can purchase their own butterflies, which are then set free in the hospice’s backyard following a small ceremony of remembrance for their loved ones.
Christopher Walker, Manager of Fund Development at Huron Hospice, said that the event serves multiple purposes,
The funds raised through the Butterfly Release play a crucial role in supporting the hospice’s services.
Walker says that although the butterfly started as an important symbol, they’ve since dedicated themselves to supporting the wellbeing of butterfly species,
The hospice maintains their gardens as a safe haven for many butterfly species by planting a variety of pollinators.
The release is carefully timed to coincide with the butterflies’ migration, creating a mesmerizing sight as they take flight.
The event initially started as a butterfly release because the butterfly serves as a powerful symbol of transformation—a concept deeply intertwined with the hospice’s mission.
Walker is especially thrilled about the joy it brings to families,
Beyond the enchanting visual spectacle of butterflies taking flight, Huron Hospice’s dedication to supporting families extends well beyond the event itself – they offer grief supports for families throughout the year.
