Last Thursday (August 10), an official groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of the new “Sol Haven by the Bend” subdivision, nearly four years after the concept was introduced to the South Huron council.
Nestled just outside of Grand Bend on the eastern side of Highway 21, on land that was previously part of Oakwood golf course, the initial phase will see 89 single-family home lots and 25 townhouses.
As the project evolves, the expansion could grow to up to 396 units.
South Huron Mayor George Finch, a fervent supporter of this project, anticipates that the subdivision will infuse newfound vitality into the Grand Bend locale while bestowing intrinsic value upon the broader region.
Despite initial opposition and challenges, the project garnered approvals for essential zoning bylaw and official plan amendments.
Construction is expected to begin by late spring, with the first residents settling in before the close of 2024. Initial groundwork is slated to start as early as August 14.
