South Huron Council had a glimpse into the future of construction on Main Street in Exeter at a meeting on August 14.
Several aging watermains were on the docket – with the replacement of the road surface on the horizon, undertaking infrastructure upgrades under the road will be more cost effective if undertaken while the road is already being resurfaced.
As part of the Province’s connecting links program, the Municipality had previously received some funding for much needed upgrades on Highway 4 from the Ausable River to Walper Street.
Manager of Infrastructure and Development Don Giberson insisted that the best course of action would see minimal disruptions to the public by replacing one side of the road at a time, and diverting two lanes onto the neighbouring side (similar to the process that was used to resurface Highway 21 through Grand Bend in recent years).
Upcoming discussions about the 2024 budget will shed light on the cost of the project, however, council seemed optimistic that provincial funding would cover the majority of the costs.
