The mural project in Exeter is making significant strides, despite a few hurdles along the way.
Rick Sickinger, Economic Development Officer with the County of Huron, shared that the project had to navigate some challenges, including a change in artists due to timeline issues earlier this July.
When asked about the design, Sickinger said that the local selection committee was focused on environmental and natural sustainability, reflecting the region’s connection to the land,
The mural’s location, a south-facing wall in the downtown parkette opposite the train mural, has been chosen thoughtfully to provide a captivating view for passersby.
The complexity of representing a community in a single mural was acknowledged, with Sickinger pointing out that art’s subjectivity further complicates matters.
With a final design expected to be available at the end of the month, painting is scheduled to begin in September – although it may be a while before you see any progress, as the mural is being painted on panels and mounted on the building, as opposed to being painted on the surface.
Originally set for completion by July 1st, the project has been granted an extension until the end of September due to the encountered setbacks.
Rick also expressed gratitude towards the local selection committee, the municipality, and BMO for their support and patience throughout the process. He emphasized that despite the challenges, the end result will undoubtedly be a remarkable fixture in the area.
As the mural project progresses, the community eagerly awaits the unveiling of a piece that promises to tell a significant story about Exeter, and its connection to the land and environment.
