Swimmers looking to squeeze in that last bit of summer fun should avoid Wildwood Reservoir near St. Mary’s after a warning from Huron Perth Public Health yesterday afternoon.
An algae bloom in the reservoir could be toxic to humans and animals – with children being most vulnerable. Exposure to the water can produce a variety of symptoms including skin and eye irritation, or flu-like symptoms if swallowed.
Drinking water remains unaffected in wells.
It’s also recommended that residents do not eat fish caught in the water at this time – toxins may be present in the water for up to three weeks.
Monitoring is ongoing.
