As we bear down on cold and flu season, The Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (HPHA) has officially declared a COVID-19 outbreak on the Medicine Unit at Stratford General Hospital.
This announcement comes as a response to the identification of two or more confirmed positive COVID-19 cases among patients or team members.
As a precautionary measure, the affected unit has been temporarily closed to new admissions until further notice.
HPHA is closely collaborating with Huron Perth Public Health (HPPH) to manage this situation effectively. Patients, family members, caregivers, and hospital staff who may have been exposed to the virus are being promptly notified.
To control the spread of the virus within the hospital, several safety measures have been put in place. Family and caregiver presence on the affected unit has been restricted. Visitors are urged to limit their interactions to one visit per patient per day, except for palliative patients at end of life. Additionally, all individuals entering the unit are required to wear full personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks, gowns, gloves, and eye protection.
Patients within the unit are being isolated, and access to common areas has been restricted to minimize exposure.
