McTaggart (L) and Pfaff (R) are front runners in the entrepreneurial space
Young entrepreneurs in the area are making waves, leaving an indelible mark on their community.
myFM connected with Heather McTaggart, the owner of South Huron Fitness, and Bekah Pfaff, the visionary behind Havasu Coffee Company to ask what it’s like to be a young business owner, and why it’s important to get involved in their own community.
Heather McTaggart – South Huron Fitness
Heather’s story began seven years ago when she took over an established fitness center, South Huron Golf and Fitness. This 24-hour gym offered not just a place to work out but a space for personal growth. Heather’s entrepreneurial spirit was fueled by her vision of creating a haven for fitness enthusiasts.
Heather says that the road wasn’t without its challenges – she finds it difficult to separate personal life and business. In a small town, everyone knows you – people support you, but also know you and your private matters
Investing in her own community is a bit of a given for McTaggart – she considers the health of the community to be everyone’s responsibility.
For McTaggart, being a business owner was never in her initial plans.
Her advice to young aspiring entrepreneurs is simple: take the leap, embrace the challenges, and watch your business thrive.
Bekah Pfaff – Havasu Coffee Company
Bekah’s journey began with a dream and a takeout window. Starting as a small coffee spot, Havasu Coffee Company quickly gained popularity in Zurich, Ontario.
Bekah’s business expanded rapidly, offering not only coffee but also a diverse menu of breakfast and lunch options in their own independent location with eat in and catering services alongside takeout.
She says the biggest challenge is remaining flexible, but firm.
Bekah’s dedication to her community is evident as she actively participates in community events and promotes growth. Her café serves as an information hub for locals, fostering a sense of belonging.
As a young entrepreneur, she believes in being a trailblazer and setting her own path while also encouraging young people to explore entrepreneurship as a viable career option.
******
Their businesses not only provide valuable services but also create a vibrant, supportive, and thriving local environment. They are living proof that with determination and a passion for their communities, young entrepreneurs can make a lasting impact.
