An act of vandalism left a seasonal cottage on the other side of Goderich in ruins.
On September 13th, 2023, a concerned individual reached out to the Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) after discovering their friend’s seasonal cottage on Hunter’s Road in Ashfield-Colborne-Wawanosh in tatters. The cottage’s owner, a U.S. resident, relies on the goodwill of friends to periodically check on their lakefront property.
Between July 22nd and September 13th, unknown culprits wreaked havoc on the cottage, causing an estimated $100,000 worth of damage. The destruction was thorough, with all windows smashed, interior drywall obliterated, and furniture and household items recklessly thrown about and damaged.
The motive behind this act remains unclear. Authorities are still investigating whether items were stolen during the vandalism spree. The police have urged anyone with information to come forward and assist in solving this case.
