The changing landscape of housing in South Huron has already seen a shift in development from 2022-2023.
In a recent interview with Mayor George Finch of South Huron, we embarked on a journey through the complex terrain of housing developments in the region.
He said that there are several developments underway at the moment, with more on the horizon.
An essential point of discussion was the historical indicators of prosperity.
The shift from single family detached dwellings, to multiple residential units on a given property is one that’s being encouraged by the province, and one that Mayor Finch says makes sense for everyone.
Mayor Finch’s insights took a unique turn as he discussed the economic impacts of slowdowns in housing developments. He emphasized that a housing slowdown doesn’t occur in South Huron in isolation; it ripples through the broader economy.
Time will tell what the final reports for 2023 look like, but a slowdown in the development of single family dwellings, and increase in density is a trend that will likely continue.
