A vacant seat in Ward 2 has the Municipality of South Huron on the hunt for nominees!
The Municipality of South Huron is divided into three wards: Stephen (Ward 1), Exeter (Ward 2), and Usborne (Ward 3). The council consists of seven members, including the mayor and deputy mayor elected by the entire municipality, while individual wards vote for their representative. Notably, the vacant Ward 2 seat is open to applicants from across South Huron, regardless of their residence or property ownership in the ward.
Alex Wolfe, the Acting Clerk of the Municipality of South Huron says that they’re hoping to receive several submissions for the appointment this week, and that besides some paperwork, there’s an option to present your merits.
That’s right, if you’re considering a role in local government, the deadline for council applications is Friday, October 27th, at 2 pm. Prospective candidates must submit three documents to town hall: a declaration of eligibility, consent to share information publicly, and a nomination form.
On November 8th, at 6 pm, a public session will be held, where applicants present their visions and answer council questions.
But why get involved in local government? According to Wolfe, it’s an excellent opportunity to engage with the community – but that there’s lots of ways to get involved.
The list of council applicants will be finalized and available online by Monday, October 30th – in the meantime, it’s being updated as names come in.
