Members of the Royal Canadian Legion’s Exeter branch pinned a poppy on South Huron Mayor George Finch at Town Hall in front of the cenotaph on Friday afternoon.
Rick Smith, Poppy Chair for the Exeter Legion said that the gesture is the beginning of their poppy campaign for Remembrance Day -which always kicks off the last Friday in October, and begins with a poppy being presented to the Canadian Prime Minister.

Mayor George Finch said that Remembrance Day, and remembering veterans is something that he takes very seriously.
The Legion will be returning to the cenotaph on the 5th to recognize the veterans whose names are preserved in stone there.

The group will gather at the cenotaph in the coming weeks.
The public is welcome to join them.
