Program participants can enjoy a variety of activities, catered to their interests and needs.
Community Living South Huron is taking a different approach to Community Living Programming – offering individualized programs as opposed to group programming.
Katie Fox, the Co-Executive Director for Community Living South Huron says Community Living is a very important part of the world we live in.
Community living agencies serve people with developmental disabilities and help them become active participants in the community by volunteering, working and more.
Community Living South Huron has been around 55 years and started as a group of parents that wanted an inclusive life for their children, active in their home communities.
In the last few years since the pandemic, they have been working to provide personalized opportunities for the people in their care.
By switching to a more individualized format, this allows people to be more in control of what they want, instead of always having the do things as a group.
With the old program, people were still receiving care, just in a different way than they will be going forward.
Fox says it that without the individualization, people made assumptions about others and are only reached the surface level.
Now, people can get to know each other on a more personal level.
