Working to make the roads safer this holiday season, local OPP have officially kicked off their annual Festive RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) campaign.
Spanning from today (November 16), to January 1, the campaign aims to curb impaired driving incidents and enhance public awareness.
Motorists can anticipate an increased OPP presence on local roads, with around-the-clock RIDE checks.
A 166% increase in RIDE check events this year is indicative of their intention – crack down on impaired driving. In the West Region, 18 lives have been lost in alcohol/drug-related collisions this year, a significant reduction from the 32 deaths reported in 2022.
Citizens are urged to contribute to this cause by refraining from driving under the influence and reporting suspected impaired drivers by calling 9-1-1.
