Huron County’s major affordable housing project is progressing as County council awarded the Gibbons Street project tender to Bronnenco Construction Ltd. for nearly $13.2 million.
The project involves constructing 40 new rental housing units in Goderich, addressing the region’s need for affordable housing.
The building will include one-bedroom and two-bedroom units, office spaces, secure entrances, and environmentally friendly features like electric heating and cooling.
Despite concerns raised by some council members about costs and potential tax increases, the project is expected to begin construction in spring 2024 and be completed by mid-2025, funded through the county’s reserves.
