A chance to get something new to you – South Huron District High School (SHDHS) students are organizing a clothes swap for their peers, looking to extend the lifecycle of clothing.
In a recent interview with Ryan Marsh, the president of Eco Exeter, and Liam Buckman, the vice-president, Ryan’s excitement and commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices shone through.
For their clothes swap event on November 29th, the concept is simple: students can bring in an item for the swap, and that serves as their ticket to participate.
Liam is optimistic that their offerings will give students lots of options to choose from.
Other eco groups have successfully organized similar events in the past, but Liam and Ryan hope to set a precedent for more such swaps in the future.
To ensure the event’s success, Eco Exeter has distributed collection boxes to each classroom, enabling students to donate items easily. Teachers are keeping track of the donations, and this record will serve as students’ entry tickets to the event.
Ryan passionately stressed the importance of reducing textile waste. He explained that many of us underestimate the environmental impact of discarding clothes.
Liam added a staggering statistic to drive home the point.
The Eco Exeter students are not only promoting sustainable fashion but also inspiring their peers to consider the impact of their choices.
Leftover clothes will be donated to a local second hand store, extending their lifecycle once more.
