Monday, November 20th’s council meeting saw officials in North Huron face a barrage of concerns and criticisms from local residents regarding proposed increases in recreation fees.
One resident expressed worry about the potential negative impact, stating, “I think the drastic increase in fees will have a lot of people staying away from the town of Wingham. Mildmay is just as close for me to get my groceries.”
Transparency became a central issue as another resident questioned how the new fees were compiled, emphasizing the need for clarity on the comparison with fees in other municipalities.
In response to the proposed fee increases, a senior resident stated, “I’m not against raising [fees] even 20%, but the price you’ve suggested is unreasonable.” The resident urged the council to reconsider the percentage increase, suggesting a more gradual approach.
As tensions rise, a listener emailed in, noting a record number of people attending the meeting. The community appears to be mobilizing against the proposed fee hikes, calling for a reevaluation of the plans and urging the Council to consider alternative solutions.
