In a celebration of agricultural excellence, Eat Local Huron, a local food non-profit, emerged victorious at the Royal Winter Fair in Toronto in early November, clinching the prestigious Ontario Agricultural Excellence award for Agri-Food Promotional Excellence.
The award was presented by Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson, who also serves as Ontario’s Minister of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs.
Eat Local Huron operates as an online farmer’s market, facilitating residents of Huron County to order fresh produce directly from local farmers. The organization’s commitment to connecting the community with local food producers garnered them the accolade, highlighting their impact on Ontario’s agriculture and food industry.
“I am very proud to present the 2023 Excellence in Agriculture Awards at the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair, where it is a tradition to celebrate the best of the best,” said Lisa Thompson, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs. “The recipients lead by example and have demonstrated ingenuity, drive, and passion. Their impact on Ontario’s agriculture and food industry is invaluable.”
Board Member Dana Lumby and Executive Director Chris Spaleta accepted the award on behalf of Eat Local Huron.
This recognition comes as part of the broader Excellence in Agriculture program by the Ontario government, which honors outstanding contributions from farmers, food processors, organizations, businesses, and Indigenous communities.
