The Bluewater Recycling Association has declared Christmas decorations a no-go.
The association placed them on their “most unwanted” list, urging residents to rethink their disposal habits.
Disposal of Christmas decorations in recycling bins has become a recurring issue during the holiday season, with an influx of Christmas lights, garland, and tinsel. According to the BRA, all Christmas decorations are garbage material – they directed residents to dispose of them in their waste bins, NOT their recycling.
Behind this seemingly Grinch-like stance lies a practical concern. Christmas decorations, when thrown into recycling bins, pose a risk of entanglement and breakage, potentially causing damage to the recycling machinery. Moreover, these festive items can contaminate otherwise recyclable material.
So reuse your decorations, donate them, or dispose of them properly.
