It’s time for 12 days of Fire Safety, brought to you by the Lambton Shores Fire Department and South Huron Fire Department.
Baby, it’s cold outside! Staying warm this Winter Solstice means practicing fire safety.
As the cold weather settles in, ensuring a warm and cozy home becomes a top priority for many.
Todd Mellin, Public Education Lead with Lambton Shores Fire Department, says that it’s important to keep a safe distance between heating sources, and combustible materials like paper and fabrics.
A key guideline is to maintain a minimum distance of one meter (3 feet) between the heat source and any potentially flammable items.
In addition to this, Mellin provided some practical tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable winter season. Regular maintenance of heating appliances is crucial; this includes cleaning out chimneys and ensuring that vents are clear of any obstructions.
Checking for any signs of wear and tear in cords and plugs can also prevent electrical issues that may lead to fires. It’s also important to use the correct cords to power space heaters.
By incorporating these safety measures, you can stay warm this holiday season without compromising on safety.
