In a move aimed at bolstering consumer protection and enhancing professionalism in the real estate sector, the Ontario government has introduced sweeping changes to the rules governing brokerages, brokers, and salespersons.
Bob Heimpel, Broker at Royal LePage Don Hamilton Real Estate and President of the Huron Perth Association of Realtors, highlighted that the revisions aim to simplify the client and customer relationship under the Trust in Real Estate Services Act (TRESA).

The key changes include empowering brokerages to disclose details of competing offers at the seller’s direction, offering Ontarians more choice in the real estate trade process.
One of the groundbreaking alterations is the introduction of the Real Estate Council of Ontario (RECO) information package, a guide designed to better protect and educate Ontarians. This package, required for all buyers and sellers, provides fundamental information about the real estate process, working with agents, and avenues for complaints.
Heimpel expressed optimism about the long-term impact of these changes, emphasizing accountability. The reforms are set to elevate consumer rights, redefine the real estate landscape, and establish Ontario as a leader in professional standards and ethics.
