This boxing day, you might want to make sure that your recycling habits aren’t causing havoc down the line.
The Bluewater Recycling Association, has stated that that despite being paper-based, gift wraps fall into the category of “Garbage Material.”
While paper gift wrap is technically recyclable, the challenge arises from the potential for cross-contamination. The presence of tape, bows, ribbons, or excessive ink renders these materials unsuitable for the blue box or wheelie bin. The Association urges residents to dispose of all gift wraps in the garbage, where they belong.
Encouraging the community to reduce waste, they suggest opting for reusable options such as fabric, gift bags, baskets, or tins.
So give the gift of clean, processable recycling to the BRA this Christmas, keep your wrapping paper, out of the blue bin.
