When most people think about donating blood, they think about people who have suffered trauma such as a car crash or who have had an accident, when in reality there are many reasons why someone could be in need of blood donations.
It is so important that we come together as a community and help Blood Service Canada’s goal of as many people donating as possible.
Coming up on January 17th from 1-7pm there will be a blood donation clinic at the South Huron Recreation Centre and Maureen Macfarlane, Community Develpoment Manager at Canadian Blood Services is hoping to see every appointment left available filled.
There are so many reasons why someone could be in need of blood and Macfarlane says they aren’t talked about enough.
Even with blood donation clinics every month, the need never slows down and according to Macfarlane donated blood is only available to us for a certain amount of time.
Macfarlane has a special ask for those in the community who know they have O Negative blood.
A lot more goes into blood donations once the blood has been collected.
Macfarlane says there are many steps to be taken before the blood can be given to someone in need and it can sometimes be a lengthy process.
