From Municipality of Central Huron website
The Municipality of Central Huron is looking forward to continuing to revitalize the community spaces that give it a unique character and identity in 2024.
Some notable achievements in 2023 included the unveiling of vibrant murals in Clinton, animated through a dedicated app. The project engaged local high school students and added a touch of artistry to the community. Other accomplishments included the completion of a utility center rebuild, the opening of a dog park, and recognition for downtown Clinton’s accessibility efforts.
However, Mayor Jim Ginn acknowledged the challenges faced by Central Huron, primarily financial pressures, especially concerning property taxes.
Housing and workforce shortages were identified as interrelated challenges, in keeping with provincial trends being seen beyond the municipality. Mayor Ginn says they’re continuing to make progress in that department.
Mayor Ginn says that working with other rural municipalities to improve access to broadband has been crucial to ensuring economic vitality in the region, and says that they’ve worked to identify five key areas with critical labour shortages.
As Mayor Ginn looks forward to the ROMA and AMO conferences this year, he emphasizes the importance of addressing critical issues such as broadband access in rural areas and workforce development. He advocates for a collaborative approach at the provincial level to tackle challenges like healthcare funding and road maintenance.
