South Huron Council officially passed the 2024 budget at their meeting on Monday, (January 15).
Julia Warwick, Director of Financial Services & Treasurer, outlined key priorities and initiatives for the municipality for council.
Financial pressures that have forced increases to the budget were discussed, which included increased contributions to capital replacement reserves, and addressing the impact of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) on operating costs.
Warwick also highlighted fluctuations in grant funding, which will have a signifigant impact on infrastructure investment.
Capital project highlights featured over $13.5 million investment in various projects, including road resurfacing, bridge and culvert repairs, and facility upgrades.
The final 2024 budget reflects a 3.91% tax rate increase for ward one and three and a 1.92% tax rate increase for ward two – resulting in an annual increase of $23.53 per $100,000 of residential value for rural and $13.53 for urban wards.
