The Ontario government is directing over six million dollars, derived from funds forfeited in criminal prosecutions, to support 23 projects aimed at enhancing community safety.
Solicitor General Michael Kerzner emphasized the government’s commitment to leveraging seized assets to proactively combat crime and safeguard communities.
Locally, OPP Central Huron will benefit from $256,500 allocated to the Huron Safe Schools and Proceeds of Crime Initiative – which focuses specialized training for teachers, students, and parents, to address drug awareness, mental health, and violence threat risk assessment.
Similarly, the OPP Goderich is set to receive $256,500 for the Goderich Safe Schools and Proceeds of Crime Initiative – which will support increased officer training, additional police presence in schools, and provide crucial training for community organizations and school staff.
The initiative also includes the installation of external cameras and digital speed signs in and around schools, enhancing both school area monitoring and overall community safety.
