The Stratford General Hospital has officially ended the combined outbreak of COVID-19 and Influenza A, as declared by Huron Perth Public Health.
The outbreak, initially announced on the Medicine Unit on January 15, 2024, led to immediate precautions, such as testing patients for the viruses, according to Erica Jensen, Manager Quality, Patient Safety & Infection Control.
Now, the Medicine Unit is open for admissions and transfers, with Family and Caregiver Presence reinstated. Detailed guidelines are available on the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance website at www.hpha.ca.
Despite the end of the outbreak, it’s emphasized that protecting against respiratory illnesses in Huron Perth is crucial. Jensen advises staying updated with flu and COVID-19 vaccines, practicing frequent handwashing, staying home when feeling unwell, and using masks when necessary.
