The provincial government’s retooled the kindergarten curriculum by introducing clear and direct instruction in reading, writing, and math.
Minister of Education Stephen Lecce provided some in-class of examples of what that would look like during a press conference Tuesday.
Lecce says they’re trying to find more in-classroom consistency and a more systemic approach to the recently revamped grade 1 to 8 curriculum to help set students up for success.
Minister Lecce was asked what the purpose of these changes are.
Lecce notes the clear and direct instruction teaching methods will go alongside the play-based and hands-on learning approach that’s been long-standing in a kindergarten classroom.
He says the changes will begin in September 2025 and will compliment, not replace, the existing hands-on and play-based learning methods.
