It’s time to register your furry friend with the municipality.
Aaron Stewardson, Manager of Development Services for the Municipality of Bluewater says that the tags and licensing system does more than help offset bylaw enforcement.
The permits are used for everything from using the funds to pay for doggy bags at parks, to helping track where in the municipality pets are located.
Stewardson emphasized that dog registration is important, not only for enforcing bylaws but also for safeguarding both pets and residents – helping to facilitate investigations in cases where pets cause harm, but also helping with the enforcement of animal cruelty laws.
While many other municipalities have shifted the administration of these services to general taxes, Stewardson says that in Bluewater, the system they have ensures that pet owners support them.
At the end of the day, the largest purpose that these tags serve is in reuniting pets with their owners.
Keep an eye on the upcoming deadline of February 28th for dog registration:
First dog – $20
Second dog – $25
Third dog – $30
Vicious Dog or Pit Bull – $100
Late Fee (per dog) – $15
Through proactive measures and community cooperation, the Municipality of Bluewater aims to foster a safe and responsible environment for both pets and residents alike.
