The spirit of giving and community warmth shone brightly during the recent Coldest Night of the Year event in Exeter, organized by United Way Perth-Huron and the Southern Huron Community Committee.
With enthusiasm and generosity, participants rallied together, surpassing all expectations by raising an impressive $47,394, exceeding their initial goal of $45,000.
Michelle Millar, United Way’s Community Development Manager for Southern Huron, expressed her elation, stating, “We’re thrilled with the community’s response to this event. It’s a testament to the caring nature of our residents and their commitment to supporting those in need.”
A total of 121 individuals, including the iconic White Squirrel of Exeter, took part in the walk, showcasing solidarity and compassion. Among the standout contributors were the top five fundraising teams: Grand Bend Winter Walkers, Bill’s Buddies, Tre-huggers, EBF Young Adults, and Walkers Coldest Night Bandits (LMR), along with the top individual fundraisers: Pat O’Rourke, Cheryl Masson, Brian Hall, John Smits, and Audrey Boersma.
The funds raised from the event will directly benefit crucial programs such as the Southern Huron Connection Centre in Exeter and the Huron Homelessness Initiative, providing vital support services to those experiencing hardship in the region.
For those who wish to continue supporting these vital initiatives, donations are still being accepted until March 31 at cnoy.org
