Huron OPP is asking members of the community to consider joining the CAMSafe program that is now up and running in Huron County.
Craig Soldan, Media Relations Officer with Huron OPP explains the program for those who have not yet heard about it.
This is a completely voluntary program that anyone with surveillance cameras is able to join.
Soldan says this program has the ability to help officers when it comes to finding helpful information and details during investigations.
Soldan has heard some misinformation in regards to the program, and wants to assure everyone that all the information you share will remain completely confidential and safe.
If there was an armed home invasion for example police would start the investigation immediately.
A officer would log onto the secure registry, look up the area where the crime occurred and see if anyone has registered camera’s in the area.
If there are camera’s, police would contact the owners and ask if they’re open to providing their surveillance, saving time during investigations.
It’s easy and quick to do, you can take your name off the system at anytime.
