Huron OPP have charged a North Huron resident with Impaired Operation and several other offenses following a traffic stop for speeding in South Huron on Friday, February 23rd.
According to reports, officers were conducting patrols in South Huron around 8:20 p.m. when they observed a southbound vehicle on Highway 4 traveling at excessive speed. The driver, upon noticing the police presence, unsuccessfully attempted to escape by turning into a private laneway.
Once they’d stopped the driver, police noticed signs of impairment, and a 36-year-old from North Huron, was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. A search of the vehicle confirmed their suspicions of illegal drug use.
Charges include impaired operation, obstructing a peace officer, speeding, driving under suspension, and Personation with Intent – a charge commonly laid in cases of identity theft.
A court appearance is scheduled in Goderich on March 18th.
